| Sometimes I wonder whose life I'm supposed to save....especially after a day like today.
Have you ever looked into the eyes of a new mother after she found out that her new baby isn't perfect?

| So, surgery went well and now I have a week left on crutches...and can I say, that I'm officially sick of crutches and they officially suck! As of next thursday I get my walking cast though and then I can walk!!! I never thought I would be so happy to walk. then in another month I might be able to drive again...::sigh:: I miss driving. School started this week and it has been going well, lots of reading, but that's kind of to be expected at this point. I really dont feel like a senior at all...who knew that this year would every come?!?!?!? So I guess I better get back to that massive amount of reading and stop procrastinating...alas

| So I guess it's about time I updated. Unfortunately I don't have much good news to report. I'm having ankle surgery on wed....yeah, fun fun. I get to start school in a cast and be in a series of casts (yes multiple), boots and splints, for about 4 months. It will be fun! So things have been a bit crazy here. We went on vacation for two weeks which was nice, a couple of weeks on the beach helped to raise my spirits and now I'm just looking forward to getting back to school. I know, most people wouldn't say that, but I'm just downright weird. Anyway, I think that's it for now! Jenny and the babes are comming soon so I have to go help babyproof the house...yeah for my neice and nephew it's been too long!

| So it's probably about time that I update. School is officially out! I passed all my finals with flying colors which was wonderful. I'm back at home now and one of my three jobs have started. The other 2 will start next week and then everything will get really crazy. I can't wait to start the other work. Respite care has been going really well and it has really gotten me thinking about neuro nursing. So right now I'm looking at that as an option for next year. Megan graduates college on saturday which is really great and everyone is either coming up or down to visit us for the weekend. Jenny had her baby...finally. Devlin Daniel Jack 8lbs50z and very healthy.
That's it for now...more later!

| My mom told me that if you make it through your first code without running and hiding, you can make it anywhere as a nurse. Well, I had my first code yesterday. I was working in the PICU (pediatric ICU) and we extubated by patient, despite the fact that my nurse and I both disagreed with the doctor on that point, and when we did, she crashed. I can't really describe everything that happened in those 20 min. I remember going from intently watching this extubation to calling in doctors and handing them atropine and writing down vitals and watching the monitors. It's an odd feeling, part of you just wanting to curl up in the corner and part of you wanting to be in there, doing what you can. I didn't run, I was calm, my heart might have been racing, but I was calm. I can't say that it didn't shake me though. You can't describe the feelings that you have watching someone come close to death. I wanted to pick up this little baby girl and tell her to fight for a little longer. She did....we had to reintubate her, but she made it and she woke up kickin 30 min later, fighting everything. I guess the hardest and best lessons you learn in nursing are the ones that you learn to not run from.
